What’s Thai non-immigrant visa?
The Thai non-immigrant visa has many categories such as non-B for business, non-ED for student, non-O for retirement or dependent, Destination Thailand Visa (DTV or Digital Nomad Visa) and Long-Term Resident (LTR Visa).
Please ensure that you have Re-entry Permit stamp from Thai Immigration on your passport before apply German visa and valid after coming back from Germany or Schengen countries.
Types of German Visas
German visa has 2 main type of visas which are Schengen Visa (C visa) and National Visa (D visa). The Schengen visa is a visa for visiting Germany in short periods (not more than 90 days). If you plan to work, study or live in Germany more than 90 days, you should apply the National visa.
The German embassy, Thailand is solely authorized to consider all visa applications in Thailand. The VFS Global is only authorized representatives of the German embassy.
The duty of VFS Global is to handle administrative tasks for the German embassy. VFS Global will handle all administration jobs such as Q&A about visa, make an appointment slot, check supporting documents and the visa application according to embassy requirement, collect visa applicant's biometric on behalf of the embassy and return the result of visa to the applicants.
The VFS Global shall accept all German Schengen visa applications and some types of German National Visa.
All visa applicants must make prior appointment before submitting their application at VFS Global.
However, we will talk about only the German short-stay visa (Schengen visa / C visa) in this page.
3 Main Categories of German Schengen Visa
There are 3 main categories of German Schengen visa as following:
1. TOURISM:
If you intend to travel purely for tourist purposes and provide your own accommodation (hotel, hostel, B&B), you require to apply for a tourist visa.
2. BUSINESS:
If you intend to conduct business or commercial activities i.e. meeting, conference, trade fairs, etc. during your visit in Germany (no matter how many days for business or commercial activities), you require to apply for a business visa.
3. VISITOR:
If you intend to travel to Germany to visit family, relatives, friends including boyfriend/girlfriend and would like to reference them, you may apply for a visitor visa.

Required Documents for German Schengen Visa
- Completed application form 🔗 through e-application VIDEX, printed out and signed by the applicant
- Additional forms (Information and data protection forms)
- Original current national passport with validity of at least 6 months after the end of the planned journey and having at least 2 blank pages
- Two recent color photographs with white background size 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm
- Long-term Thai visa and re-entry permit to Thailand (must be valid through whole itinerary till the date return to Thailand)
- Hotel reservation
- Air ticket reservation
- Travel and health insurance valid in Germany (and other Schengen countries), coverage minimum 30,000 Euro or 1,500,000 Baht
- Bank statement for the last 3 months, original with bank stamp
- Additional documents, if you are:
- 10.1 Working in Thailand
- Valid Thai work permit (original and one copy)
- Employee: Certificate of employment from your company including position, salary, the date of joining and letter stating purpose and duration of visit (original) OR
- Owner: Certificate of commercial registration of your company (a certified copy)
- 10.2 Studying in Thailand
- Certificate of student status from school/university in Thailand (original) AND
- Certificate of employment or certificate of commercial registration of parents
- 10.3 Retirement or Dependent
- A cover letter explaining sources of income
- 10.1 Working in Thailand
- Two copies of the current passport (personal data page)
- One copy of previous Schengen visas and previous passports (personal data page) (if any)
- Plan trip (for tourist visa)
- Invitation letter from company in Germany (for business visa)
- Formal obligation letter (Verpflichtungserklärung) or invitation letter from the host in Germany and related documents (for visitor visa)
Applicants must be present in person on the day of visa application.
Note: If you have received a Schengen visa within the last 59 months, you can authorize someone else to apply for the visa on your behalf.
